Opteron also known as FX series mainly because of the extra cache.

Both are quite same but are targetted at entirely different segments of the market.

Fx has higher core speeds while opteron has three Hypertransport links instead of one that Fx has. for gaming nothing is better than FX. for data servers go for Opteron. Opteron is cheaper but its mobo & memory is really costly. while in FX processor, mobo,ram,gfx card all r costly(as FX needs the best components u can giv 2 perform at its best)
