My freind did something to my laptop winxp pro installation. Now after this when I booted my computer for the first time I got the error box (when welcome screen appeared) saying windows is unable to log on to user profile and it is logging on to the default user profile. After clicking OK windows startd normally. When I restarted the system after this, windows displays welcome screen which says loading yr personal seting and windows doesn't progress further anymore. Can any one help me out?

man i think....ur friend has changed the user priveledges ..or created an alternate admin's account...or may be did something in MSCONFIG ....and the way the machine boots up........if u specify the way u log on to ur PC normally....may be it will be easy for ppl to understand and help u....i mean weather u have multiple accounts...or u logon as admin or guest normally....or weather u have only administrator account ........pls clearify.......
if the machine is not starting up atal....use the XP cd...and choose repair......u will not loose n e data....but it will repair the problem....
take care....

If you want to log in, change your password files to blank which will allow you to log in easily.
Go to Dos, using a boot disk or anyway you like, type
C:\Windows>ren *.pwl *.xyz
(C for your xp installed partition)
You can then log on using any password, solve the problem & then again modify your password.
Hope this works, had tried on my 98PC once.
Do let me know!!
Cheers!! :D

Thanks guys. I log on using admin previlages. On checking found that my user account was member of debugger group. When i changed the group to admin threre is no more problem in logging on. Though I think this should not have made any effect on my problem. after this only difference is that my computer is booting very slow.
