We're working on a better Web site! Any suggestions? Other than the obvious ones of course!

Post feedback here about functionalities that you want in ThinkDigit.com, and also the Forum. It will take some time to implement the changes we already have planned, so please be patient.

Well the main website looks good no doubt..but it's a little heavy on bandwidth (my poor 56K connection :cry:) though it's better than b4. Some streamlining wld help.

Hardware prices would be uber-cool!! thinkdigit.com wld bcome my home-page then!! :razz: (Yea the prices vary from place2place, but such a page wld help us get a general idea. 500-1K off isn't 2 much.)

About the Forum...well a lot of things have already been said abt it...about reducing the clutter and all that. It's just a matter of listening with a more open mind (no offense to Team Digit).

The main site www.thinkdigit.com is one the slowest site I have ever visited. It takes ages to load.....

1) Change the font of the site it looks bad.

2) Do we need two buttons as playware/mindware on the site when both show the same thing....a single DVD ???

First off, "apart from the obvious" stuff like the Mindware/Playware and By Demand foul-ups, it has some SERIOUS, way too serious UI issues. I seriously suggest a complete overhaul, not just a perfunctory code rerun and moving stuff into different places. Get a UI design expert to work this one out, preferably someone who knows HTML also coz the page takes forever to load (Check out jeba's posts before a "comprehensive" listing. Good one there, buddy) Not everyone has OFC connections to our ISPs :D And the sidebar. God, whatever you do, please don't use such navigation again on the next website. Plain nightmare. Not to mention that the text sizes are next to unreadable without the magnifier utility at 1280x1024. :D Did you guys know there are reviews for WinME and 2000 Pro in the Special section? :shock: Someone would think (why think when you can state for a fact) that you never update the website. And please, for God's sake, DO NOT move older articles as Web Specials. That's just real lousy and unprofessional. I don't know how long those four articles have been sitting on the homepage. I guess from Sep'03. Coz the Digit Linux DVD was in Aug'03.

BTW, the forum needs somewhat of an overhaul too. Maybe you can post prizes (gag ones, real ones or simple ones like games, etc) for people with corniest, lousiest, most helpful, most funny, etc. posts. Nothing works like rewards for making more people come together on the forum and participate more.
So, get a UI expert, get someone who's done more than one personal website and at least one corporate one, gather the people on the forum (we DO want to help) and give the site a complete makeover.

Let me introduce myself.My Name is Ashok.I am 24 years old and am a native of Hyderabad.I was an avid reader of CHIP,which was what the magazine was called when i used to read it.I left for Higher studies to New Zealand four years ago.When i was in India,your Magazine was called CHIP if i am not Wrong.The Editor was Gourav and i tremendously liked his witty editorial.It was a mainly a Computing magazine which gave a free cd everymonth,for which there were violent struggles between me n my brother.Even though we did'nt own a pc then,the struggle was to who'll run that CD at a neighbor's pc and play the Latest Game they gave.There were wallpapers n skins galore.

I also remember the team behind Chip.Gourav,Ai Chin Liu,Gulnar,Mohan,Veer........... Some of them are still there with you i suppose......... Mahesh,Marco,Sumod,Ashwin,Mexy,Jiten.............. .
The head of Multimedia was .............Sridhar...or was it Venkat.....Curiously,I don't recall his name now. Sumod's articles were very good and so was the Testing part.Marco and Hatim were the testers if i remember right.And there was also Aliasgar i suppose.Though i did'nt get to read your magazine in NZ i was kept updated by my Bro'.Gaurav's departure was a rude shocker.You guys also had a Gaming mag Rt??? I remember reading in one issue when the Office was moved to Nerul,Navi Mumbai and Gourav commented on occupying the Gaming Rig of the CGW's Editor(Sorry,Can't remember his name too)

Now I have find that you have moved with the times and have progressed from a 'Computing' magazine to a "Technology" Magazine. Applause to you for that.Technology today is a far more broader concept which is not just restricted to Computing.And by including a DVD you guys have proved that you are the Best.I remeember My Bro' squealing with delight over the phone when he got 5 cd's with one of your your (Anniversary???) issues.My,How fast have the times Changed!!!!
Here i must admit that my bro' is a far more tech-savvy than I am.He currently buys not less than 4 Magazines every month and spends atleast an hour on the net rummaging thru tech sites.It is with his initiative that i have joined this forums.Acc to him,forums are for those 'Nerds' who have nothing to do more than post n read messages.So he is an avid Forum-Hater i can say.

I happened to notice that CHIP has been relauched.It is now controlled by other people i suppose.Nevertheless it means Double-Bonanza for the Readers atleast!!!!
Now for some Suggestions: Please reduce the Packaging Size of the Magazine.The humongous Cardboard is totally unnecessary.If you want the CD's to stay protected,keep it within the Mag.DVD has its own cover.This will make the mag easy to carry.

The site is not really good.
You should try to keep it simple and pleasing all the same.

Please try to make sure the site is updated every month 1st!!
Provide more information on what the current issue is dealing with (and also DVD) and also you can mention as to what Digit is working at for future issues (atleast next issue), just to keep it interesting.

Too many things has not changed at all!!
The entire content need to updated or improved quite regularly or else surfers loose interest :!: :idea:

thinkdigit designers , could u make a small icon which rests on top of pages u visit , next to name of the site , in the browser ? . i use opera and have tabbed browsing and have windows button . most of the other sites have an icon which i can easily click on in windows button . if this site had one it would be easy to browse too .

Hi,
For a tech site, your site is really lousy. Nothing useful except the Bazaar forum. Others like PCQ and Chip have far better sites. Jasubhai Media's sites have always been of very poor quality.

You should have atleast:
a) Updated articles from the current isssue of the mag. (NOV cover not yet updated, articles have not been updated for what seems like a year). The there can be a free area and a paid area accessible to online subscribers or magazine subscribers. The only new thing in over a year has been online subscription.

b) The website gives no indication that DIGIT is supposed to be a digital electronics magazine instead of a PC magazine.

c) Better DVDs/CDs. We do not 4.7GB stuff. We need good quality stuff. 80% of the stuff on Cds is crap. 1 good game, 1 good software and updates like service packs, antivirus updates etc.

is it possible to customise the number of headings of topics viewed per page for individuals . if u jus t go under qanda section u got to go through 20+ pages . could u make another view of the sub pages with just topic and other important stuff which might show like a 100 or so topics below .

could u make sub topics within the main topics like , OS , Installation , Troubleshooting , Tips , News under software and similar sub topics for others which would make it easy to post the proper questions / queries in the right topic . and a reminder for the digit icon on top of the pages , like i get a Y when i visit a yahoo page and easy to navigate in opera . A small d for digit would help .

add a search field in all the pages viewed instead of having to go to another page . u can have a seperate page search option for advanced options alone .

Hey the website wasn't updated for the January issue till the 5th January. Then it got updated, just the pic of the new issue. Then the next day still the same old stories. Nothing changed apart from the cover of Jan issue. Click on the cover to get some more info about the new issue and it shows the last issue's cover. Then the next day, that is yesterday this issue was fixed. After clicking at the Jan issue pic on the homepage you got the Jan issue's info. But still rest of the homepage is still the same. Please update the website at least by the 1st of every month so that we can see how's the new issue of our favorite mag!

well, the content on ur site honestly...sucks, you should definetly definetly put more tech stuff there,
put in the latest previews as they happen! being a mag im sure digit has its print deadlines etc, but technology has no such thing, so you can basically put the latest releases from around the world on your website, will need constant updating sure but hey ur a tech mag!

and please NO FLASH!! and if you DO use flash, make sure u incorporate a right click >open in new window kinda thing otherwise it gets irritating as hell!

daily updated hardware price list would be simply AWESOME!

what would also be cool is if you could put ur back issues online and let readers access the articles with a simple search

make ur prime focus content and ease of navigation and ppl wont crib too much about a slick design or the lack of it!!! but hey if ur re designing it, might as well go all out and make i snazzy!

another thing u shud add is let readers put in their own articles and make the site interactive! would b quite a job for scanning the articles to avoid an avnish baja like incident for Mr Jasubhai!

something fishy . why am i getting logged out of the forum ???????? i had chosen the always stay logged or whatever option and it has only asked for password , when i clear cache and cookies in opera . but now i automatically got logged out , just prior to posting . i think tech&Me also had a similar problem . guys fix this , if there is an issue as it might cause chaos , by not knowing who posted what . atleast put a confirm msg b4 someone posts , stating that they arent logged and msg might be posted as guest . will save mods a lot of headaches too

yup , i chose that option and only have 2 log in whenever i change my password and i use wand passwords too for opera . but logging out today was odd . anyways , hope u can do something abt the guest warning msg . btw , how come all the changes and improvements ?? are they having a "best forums of india " contest , i am not aware off ? :)

plus : while viewing all posts of user from profile , with descriptions , only 15 are displayed as opposed to view post since last time where 50 are displayed . Could u increase the listings under viewing all posts of user from profile to say 30 or even 50 . enables better search and lesser number of pages to browse through .

I think Digit forum needs a mobile section too.You can't ask symbian related questions in software reviews or community talks.I think Symbian and Windows pocket PC editions are growing fast and they do need some coverage,both, on the mag as well as on the website.

The digit site needs to be changed soon. It has nothing interactive in it so to speak. Ok at the end of the day i look forward to the magazine and not go to the website to look for news but i have a suggestion (maybe it has already been given)
Include old reviews, products, articles etc. So to speak make it an archive of old digit magazines. Maybe this can be done for magazines 3 months and older. Im not one to keep stacks of old Digits lying about and sometimes i want to get back to an article and find that i cannot remember which Digit it was from and where the heck did i keep the Hard copy.
Administrators see if it is a viable and workable idea. A technology magazine should have a better website than this!!!

Chip's site is only attracting traffic because of their awesome points system. Their forum (townsquare) is extremely dull and it's turning duller by the day. Mainly because they are concentrating on improving Know-How and not Townsquare. Believe me, I'm a very active member there.

I'm facing some problems...

1.) There is no button for View unread posts.
Yah! There is one button View posts since last visit.
But it shows the posts since our last visit. i.e. If I click on it, it shows all the posts that were posted after my last visit. FINE. but when i click on Mark all forums read, and again click on View posts since last visit it again shows all the posts that hv been read. Its irritating. In this condition I hv to see the icon of posts so that i can know which posts i hv read and which not.

There should be one button View New posts (as its in IPB) to see only new posts.

2.) The button Mark all forums read should be present in the Search page also. Its only in forum index page. So whenever we want to mark all posts as read, we hv to go to forum index then click on this button.

3.) The View posts since last visit button creates one more problem,as I faced today.
When i clicked on it, it showed 3 pages of unread posts, I was opening posts in other tabs and when i reached on 2nd page, my net connected and i was logged off automatically. When i reconnected the net and click on the link to open other posts in tabs. For my surprise it asked to login although I didnt click on logoff button and didnt closed the browser.
Thats why all my unread posts were lost.
When I filled my username & password and again logged in , it showed no posts in View posts since last visit.
Very sad.

So pls do something for it.

When I click on Report button to report any post to moderators, the browser shows some progress but after that nothing happens?
I hv some queries regarding it:

Is it normal?
Does the post reported to the moderators?
Do the moderators know which member has reported that post?
It doesnt show ne confirmation screen, like "Thanks for reporting" or "Your post has been reported", etc.

Hmm.. All the moderators of the section get the report list .. If email notification is enabled, everyone will get a notification .. if its not then whichever mod is online that time or come online earliest will get the report ..

Btw .. You can delete your reported by again clicking on Report button if you accidently reported a valid post .. The post above is still under reported status .. ^^

I logged in the forum and click on View posts since last visit button, It showed me 3 pages of posts.
I opened all posts of first page in other tabs and clicked on the 2nd page, but while processing, my net connection was disconnected and I lost all my unread posts...

When I clicked on "View New Posts" button, It showed all the posts with last post by "Ã?xB".

But when i clicked on the posts, no last post was posted by this member "Ã?xB"......

All posts were posted by some other members!

i think you should allow signatures and that too not big than 600 X 75.
cause there are some members who want to show their skills in imagery through their signstures!

and i think you should change the theme of this forum like it should have some interactive buttons or other things and good color scheme, present one is good but make it the best!

Hi editor i have been a what to say a fan of your tech magzine since the very first day my father handed me a copy of tis subscription to me.

I am very fortunate to be a reader of this tech magazine as it si faithful in alomst every aspect in anathiing its reader with the swarming world of technology.

It is complete and competent with others in all respects except one which i have eagerly wanted to suggest you to include in your editorial.
The magazine has a highly glorifying knowledge on hardware components of machine and all its related facts and measures. But the one thing that most of its part does not seems in lcuding is anout softwares and programming which is with the main rythm of India and so need to be told and explained with every criss crossing time.Many of other countries tech magzines that i have read have large disusions points and related convelgence of sftwares and programming but digit lacks spirit in this area.

So i would earnestly like to suggest you to hold graded reviews such as top ten softwares reviews for particular field in wich the software gas its application. Discussions of what Users say after use of such softwares, newly launched and exciting softwares etc.
And also on programming side you should implement new dimensions of discussion with the latest Criteria of creation of program,use of platform langusges to devlop the satisfactory programming,Insights of programmer how they do so,also details of newly launched or available books that can help reader understand the new and use old parallels of programming simultaneously and efficiently,and also how to use logics and reasoning in programming and all relevant data and facts about prgramming is what needed to cope up the fullfillment.

But it should not be misunderstand be with my dislikes for digit as these are mere suggestions that i as a reader feel to suggest. But Imust trully say that digit has always been like a tech guru to me and a friend to help me frighten and astonish my friend with my tech knowledge that Ivirtually inherit from Digit.
Thanks to all who are behind this great convergence of knowledge.

Few shortcomming in this months magzine(CD/DVD)...

1)It reached me way to late...
2)Loads of ADs...It was like reading Cosmo or sumtin..!
3)Pathetic presentation of the Zero1 awards..not at all user-friendly!!the tennis players on the sides occupied too much of space..(not required)
3)The CD/DVD did not contain very good s/w(u provided better ones about a yr ago..)

Digit has been doing excellently for the last one year. The inclusion of booklet was the master stroke. I have liked all the booklets. I would like Digit to give a Booklet on ' Photoshop for Dummies' or something like that where in photo editing is dealt with exclusively in user friendly language. The help menus in the softwares for photo editing take too much for granted.

Another thing I would like to say is that I am a regular subscriber and would have liked to renew for more than one year, had the Digit decided to give discount instead of giving some cheap trinkets alongwith the subscription. 128 MB is too less a capacity for pendrive when 512 MB/1GB is the norm. And whoever heard of a 640*480 pixel camera being called a digital camera. Gimme a break Digit! Even regular webcams are doing better these days. All in all, it is the least attractive subscription offer till date for Digit. So this year I have renewed my subscription for only one year, hoping that next time I will get a smarter subscription offer.

For the rest , Digit is doing great.

Here i would like to bring my bad experiances with DIGIT websites

1. In the magazene link for DIGIT PATRON is printed as www.thinkdigit.com/digitpatron
. but actually the link has been changed to www.thinkdigit.com/dpnew. this has happened long time back and still they have not updated in the magazene.

2. when i visited http://www.thinkdigit.com/subscribe/ and clicked at the link SUBSCRIBE which is at the bottom most row, it points to http://www.thinkdigit.com/subscribe/encyclopedia.html. but actually a page with http://www.thinkdigit.com/subscribe/offersubscribe.html opens and gives a link to download subscription form as http://www.thinkdigit.com/RenewalOrderFormforWEB.pdf which says valid till sept 2005. Is this the way to keep the website with latest info. Is this the way they develope and maintain the site. So don't claim that you are uptodate.

As far as content goes, YOU'll are the numero uno as far computer/tech related magazines goes in India and I think you'll should show that in your web site too. Also maybe some of the digit staff could write blogs (even M$ and Sun employees are doing it...).

Also let selected members of the forum to maybe contribute articles/reviews on the site and publish the best every month in the magazine :)

Ok now this is something I have been seeing for 3-6 days on the forum. After any user logs on to the forum then the username appears on the left hand side upper corner. So then this means that a certain user is browsing the site. But then still we can see the log in box under the banner advertisement. Raaabo or whoever else is responsible for the forum pls look into this matter might be a case of overlooked settings but just thought that as a member I must bring it to your attention thats all. Thanks.

To be basically thinkdigit means thinkdigit.com/forum... about the website... its pretty crap... and that too i am saying the least..... i have not visited it for months...... and visit directly to the forums.... i wonder soo many geeks are here to run such a wonderful forum but the team at digit are not working about their website.....

Frankly, its a shame to call urself the fore runners of technology magzine with such apoor website.. which is called the FACE to the digital world..... And are these reasons is enough to have a few of ur geeks who drool over modded gaming rigs and still to release products spare a quick gaming session on regular basis and opt for improving it.....

Its like indian goverment... india striving economic growth on IT and services and hardly their is any web presence about their goverment... similarly is the case with DIGIT....

Ditto. The site is c_r_a_p. The previous site was better looking than the current one. Atleast, it had links to some useful, but outdated articles.

The "home companion" article in the jan 2006.seems to be a bluffed up one.

Under the value pc the digit award went to HCL Ezeebee 4981 priced @ Rs24,990 with P42.6Ghz,512MB DDR,17inch CRT monitor.,combo drive

I had been to the HCl website recently and had a check on the same PC Ezeebee 4981 what i found was two pC`s with the same name.but none of them matched with the digit config.

Did digit cheet us all?
