and guess what...................they haven't updated their website still

its 3rd of nov

they are lazy 4 sure
Totally agree man! and the guy at digit are not alone in this lazyness competetion, the chaps at Chip are a bit more lazy. Don't beleive me? Check out there web site chip-india.com

Atleast chip-india.com is filled with links & other stuff.
thinkdigit.com is lame as a lama.
The site is nothing but a page with few useless links.
Even I could have done better than that.
I know...

I just designed 2 sites - one for my semester project & the other for my assignment. And they both contained more links than thinkdigit.com & were more attractive.

I think that guest posting should be allowed in certain channels of the bulletin boards.
Also,I think that in any message, signatures are needed more than  `Avatars`
So I guess disabling signatures is not as useful as is disabling `Avatars`. :)

Why not actually make something instead of ask the forum members what to make ? That way we can offer our views. This thread has been going on for a long time and I have my doubts wether the Digit team is serious about any if not all of the suggestions given here. I think instead of all this nonsense you'll [ the DIGIT team ] should just make a straightforward, clean, site and leave room for expanding the site. And don't say the present thinkdigit.com is CLEAN. The layout is just done rashly and the colours are ugly in my humble opinion.

The website www.thinkdigit.com loads very slowly even
on broadband!! I think it's time to upgrade the Server.
The 'search' option does not give accurate results.
The latest hardware prices listing would also be very
helpful. How about using some eye-candy cool icons?
Overall the website needs some more improvements.
I think you guys have the potential & the resources
to create India's best website.

I agree with JGuru completely.. i'm on a 512+ connection and Digit's site is slow as snail. Its really time to upgrade the server.

I agree.
And the site sometime comes down for a whole day.
I mean whether I try in morning, afternoon, evening, night, it's always down. What's the problem??
Are they trying to upgrade to the new phpBB v2 ??

First congratulations to all members/mods/admins for the new Board :)
Its really looking nice but Very slow :(
All sites r opening very fast here but not this forum...

One suggestion also!
The Quick Reply is activated once we click on the "Quick Reply" button in any post. This is very irritating! The Quick Reply option should be activated by default, members should not be forced to click on the quick reply button to activate it!

The "click for quick reply" thing is so that you can:
1. Quote the message you're replying to, and
2. Get an RE: Subject line so that you know which post you're replying to even if you don't quote it.

We like the idea, but will consider changing it if too many people cry about it.

First of all,

A Hearty Congratulations to the Digit Team for a new and improved look of the Digit Forums.

I would like to add that the Links and content (newly added) are a treat to see but regarding the colour that is being used for the Forum is a bit bright, rich and strain to the eyes. Please try to reduce the brightness of the color used.

The relaunch of the siggy section (signatures) in the posts are a welcome treat, but please make sure that users do not advertise and/or post images/flash icons/links in their siggies. It will spoil the look of each thread and will often distract the users from the original topic and there is no continuity in the threads. Siggies look good only with the text which adds a tinge of humour and defines a unique identity to every user.

Overall, the forum is really promising. Happy posting in the Forums. :)

Cheers n e-peace.....

As Vishal pointed out, requiring quick reply to click first on a post slightly defeats the purpose of a quick reply... Perhaps the quick reply button on each post can be changed to "Quote in Quick Reply" - ie, the quick reply form will be available directly for editing, and by clicking the Quote in Quick Reply button, one can automatically add the quote code in the post...

Secondly, I too feel that the color is too bright... The previous forum layout with bluish tones is much more easier on the eye...

Thirdly, out of curiosity, what is the status of reinstating the old mods and admins? Any talks going on within team digit and also between the mods and team digit?...

Other than that, I think things look good so far... Wishing team digit good luck with the new forum interface....

The website needs to reflect the Digit magazine. It should have more content. At present we have only four sections. Plus the homepage must be updated and the format should be completely changed. You won't notice any change in website if you are seeing it even after a week.

The colour scheme needs to be more vibrant. The forum colour pattern can have a nicer shade of blue like the one used by Windows XP.

first of all the sites like yours lacks a professional touch seriously and having to place google adsense advertisement on a professsional magazines website is seriously wrong news that u r indirectly sending. another rhing is that as most forum sites on the internet follow a general rule of following the address like this ::: http://forums.websitename.com ::: (here in this case the website name is thinkdigit hence the complete address wuld b http://forums.thinkdigit.com

Move the whole forum structure to IPB instead of vBulliten
Just look at IPB forums, they look awesome
And all the changes that have ever been mentioned will come automatically with IPB.
Or you could use phpBB.

vBuletin is fast but IPB is awesome

Here is the link to IPB
http://www.invisionboard.com/

Also here is the list of features
http://www.invisionpower.com/ip.dynamic/products/board/features.html

I also request all users to go to this site and see if it is better or not

Well u guys could include a option in the DIGIT site (thinkdigit.com), where the subscriber could login check their account info, when their copy is being dispatched and also see the courier info who would be delivering the copy.
As u see, I am not getting the mail regarding the dispatch of my subscriber copy and everytime have to mail Digit for the info. I know that ur customer care is there but during holidays they are not available.
And moreover you will have direct contact with the subscriber and could improve ur service for better (like say if the courier service does not deliver the copy in time, a customer can inform u immediately).
Look into my request and see if its viable. Thanks.

I don't know whether this is the right place to comment.

One small problem which needs to be attended. That is on Thinkdigit Forum's Search Page not giving proper result when multiple keywords are entered.

Previously it was good as there were options to select

(a) " Find posts that contain all the keywords" &
(b) "Find posts that contain any of the Keywords enterd"

But now these options are not there. Please correct me if I am unable to see these options.

At the first opportunity, remove ad-sense !! It looks pretty cheap on a site that should have corporate looks!! IMHO, in its current state, its derogatory!

Change the looks of the site!! It seems to have been done by someone at home with a computer! :| You have so many resources! Run a contest for a template in the magazine or forum and you will have hundreds of options before you! You also havea few in-house visualisers. Assign the task to someone and let him/her work on it for a week!

I visit two forums running on vBulletin...

But the smileys in the above forums are different. Please check the links below.

The Smiley icons in the second seems to be better,
Now I wanted to know what I / digit needs to do so that we can incorporate the smiles (Elsmar Cove forum smileys) in our postings..

I think even the no of columns used in a webpage also has a visual impact....

Presently I can see 4 columns being used. If it were 3 columns, It would have been ideal.

My monitor is set to 800 x 600 pixels resolution and still i have to scroll sideways. My suggestion is to make the page resize itself for different browser resolutions like 800 x 600 & 1024 x 768

Also I would like to comment on the "Previously published" box on the thinkdigit.com website ...

If i change my font size from medium to larger or medium to smallest, nothing seems to happen. The font used is also bold and not normal. Even this aspect might be looked into ...

The website could be jazzed up a little bit but I'd say the forum is perfect. The settings like 'Remember Me' on login page checked off by default, user email notifications on PM and thread subscription, off means I do not have to deal with junkloads of emails in my inbox daily. Some sites running on default installations of vBulletin 3.0.X +forget to take care of these small details which could have made life a lot easier for users. :)

Please update that asap. I want to know if there are any offers for subscribing now or not.

@krrrish......;), :lol:

ok since i know that they dont check....here is what i think the improvements could be with my 4 long years of experience with the forums

1. the reputation system suc*s big time....a forum is meant for bringing people together ....not to differentiate them....want an example...look at "esato" (my first forum) ....any esato members backing me up ????? :)....(though i don't post there any more)...u can see that it behaves almost like another home like environment....just what this forum lacks
2. what about breaking up the s/w trouble shooting to multimedia, and windows tools question and answers..??
3.rename q&a to q&a for non s/w and hardware rather than providing lengthy explanation underneath.
4.mods please behave properly.....if you feel that some one is behaving badly PM them..rather than saying i have -ve repped u , stop saying blah blah blah , and so on in the post, learn from other sites....if you cant do that then stop being a MOD.
*****(stay away from fight club or delete that thread all together , rather than posting to behave properly there , u create some and expect people to behave like gentleman is not proper , let them fight, else rename to "casual chat club heavily observed by MODS".)

thats all for now....:), don't think about reading it if u are mild at heart...;)

p.s : those who repost the posting saying "moved to different section cause of wrong post"....please be sensible to answer that persons question , at least , sorry donno will do...that person expects an answer not a "moved " note. its perfectly fine who do the double posting under two sections....cause
1. they fail to understand the structure of this forum...indicates that u have work to do in site...:)
2. they are absolutely in need , in very bad need.

stop being cruel to them...also saying "problem reported blah blah blah..."

Today i found two Discrepancies in www.thinkdigit.com (http://www.thinkdigit.com)

1) IN the OPINION POLL i clicked 10-15 times and for each time my click was counted... I Know it's very hard to put constraint like blocking a IP or MAC after one click coz in situations where user access through cafes.. u can't block a IP or MAC after a click.. But to a minimal can be done is Introducing a TIME GAP between successive click say of 15 min to "minimise" the fake polls and getting more nearer to real world scenario....

2) In "Interactive Content" the pdfs were not uploaded properly i guess.. coz when i tried to access those pdf they said error while opening pdf.. not single time i tried it mainer time and the result was same

Can we have an Atom or RSS feed for the forums?

DTD feeds are considered a Security threat and not supported in Internet Explorer 7.

The front page looks better now, but what is still a concern for me are the ads!
http://www.thinkdigit.com/thinkdigit_2007/images/advt1.jpg
This ad has no hyperlink, is static, occupies 25% of vertical screenspace and is just completely useless IMHO.. In hindsight, does JDM realy require ad-revenue?

Sorry for being suche a pessimist but the smilies on the boards are really silly.. am sure there are better smiley packs available for free off the net, if you have no luck in getting them, you can always contact me, I can help.

The new website interface looks good-- simplistic, yet striking. But there are minor bugs..
like for example, in http://www.thinkdigit.com/thinkdigit_2007/index.php?action=digital_categories&head=Digital%20Passion&cid=116
the "Will Wii Rock" article has been posted twice..
Nevertheless, Its good.

this site is good but we need the REAL DIGIT PPL TO LOOK OVER not users

like we can have agent 001 answer some questions and so too for other questions and just not edit out stuff like our RESIDENT GOD "RAABO"

coz i find this as a gr8 site to discuss but not to get help from none of my problems frm the past year and a half have been answered correctly

What makes you think the users are any sort of inferior to the "Real Digit people"? ;)

ratedrsuperstar
24-06-2007, 10:30 PM
i'm not blaming the users but most of them come here only for help and not for much contribution and regular ones just go about posting updates and news

instead ppl like RAABO should be actively involved in sub-forums like QnA,Hardware & Software T.S.

Whenever we click on a thread link, which doesnt exist now (Due to upgrading to vBulletin), we get a broken page. For example, click on following link:

http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31172&highlight=

and u'll get a broken page. I think it should be changed. :)

A serious problem with thinkdigit website & NOBODY is bothered.

The search feature on the forum doesn't give desired result !!!
Just give a seach for threads giving multiple keywords & watch the meshed up results.

The search feature on forum undoubtably FAILS to deliver !!!.

This problem was already posted in this thread on 29.06.2006. But NO response/correction have been made till now -rather the search feature function got worse than ever.

That problem is --> on Thinkdigit Forum's Search Page not giving proper result when multiple keywords are entered.

Previously (in 2005) it was good and also functioning very perfectly as there were options to select

(a) " Find posts that contain all the keywords" &
(b) "Find posts that contain any of the Keywords enterd"
But now these options are not there.

Why such LOOSE treat with DIGIT's website that claims to be NO-1 ?

When I visit my control panel, I don't see a feature for viewing only my threads and posts. Is this feature even there here or not? I'm not talking about subscribed threads but a separate link for the above said feature.

For eq., I post in a long thread, and I wish to navigate to my post in that thread, how do I do it without going through the entire thread?

Find all threads started by hitbox.champion (http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/search.php?do=process&showposts=0&starteronly=1&exactname=1&searchuser=hitbox.champion)

I think this is what you are looking for right?

I tried 100 of times to remove those two extra quote but as soon as i delete them and save the post to my surprise nothing s changed again three quote.

I request admins/mods to plz help me remove it

In Edit Avatar Section in User CP at the bottom it is written:-

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 80 by 80 pixels or 15.6 KB (whichever is smaller).

Can u just increase the size to around 100 X 100 pixcels..!!!

Whenver I try to upload an Animated Image it doesnot animate after uploading in this forum...!!!

My current avatar is a Animation but it is not animating..!!! :-x

Plz fix this problem...!!!

Agree with the suggestion of iMav that There must be the facility that when a user is banned for how days, hours etc etc he is banned must be shown..!!!

Ok the next thing that u can do Raboo.

See this post (http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/showthread.php?p=753995#post753995) and the the post below it.

So plz enable Javascipt and HTML in this forum.

^ @ Vaibhav, I don't think its safe to enable HTML and javascript.

And here is my request:
Can we make the tutorial section only for "Procedure oriented" things. There are few threads such as "Windows error messages explained", "Web error codes and meaning", etc.

I agree that the above are not totally non tutorial type so can we have a sub-section for "informational readings" in tutorial section? In such threads there is no procedure involved, only reading is involved.
