Difference between Home and pro Editions is given here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/evaluation/compare.mspx

For better performace you can go for Pro Version but normally Home Edition does fine for the reasons you said.

Beware if u r using pirated versions of Professinal then expect NASSCOM knocking ur door soon.

if u thinking of having a registered version. Home edition should fit the bill. it will fit ur basic hi fi needs
