Hello...
I jus installed Vector Lin 4.3 on my old system given in a CD by my friend. While installing it asked where it shud write boot information(or something like that) and gave me 3 options
1>MBR
2>Root
3>Floppy.
I thought MBR wud be best idea and gave it but there was an error message and installation jus continued..
Now im stuck with no OS coz i cant boot into Linux.. and windows i havent installed it yet.
So how do i make bootable floppy?ie where do i get the files?
Please help
Thanks in advance

Try reinstalling boot loader
And the way u normally install windows first and than linux as its pretty tricky the other way round and even OS geeks avoid that..

Check these links for some linux boot floppy's -
http://www.linuxlinks.com/Distributions/Floppy/
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Bootdisk-HOWTO/index.html
http://plug.twuug.org/articles/rescuedisk.html
Those based on the busybox environment are generally compact and have just whats needed to get the job done.
Once you are in a working linux environment, you have to mount your hard drive partition, chroot to it and run lilo, if you need any more details please do post :)

Firget floppies, they would get bad in a short time. use the same Vector CD. It has an option to boot from and type linux root= hda(x whatever) ro. It wil better work than a bootable flopy. In fact I use my vector CD whenever a Linux installation bungles with loader Lilo/Grub.

You can have several recommendations for books/guides, but here is one I enjoyed -
http://www.tldp.org/LDP/gs/gs.html
It goes through the basics quite well and helps you understand many aspects of the system :)
Of course, the parent site, www.tldp.org , is an invaluable source of information.
As for listing installed packages, as vector follows slackware's simplicity, I think a ls /var/log/packages will do the trick :) or else check the VASM tool.
