I had heard that it is possible to connect ur IDE HDD through ur USB slot using an interface hw (trasfer speed not an issue). If true plz tell me what is it called and where can I get it in either Mumbai or Delhi. Also how much is it gonna cost.
You can connect Harddisk thru USB by using 3.5" Harddisk casing for IDE and 2.5" casing for Laptop Harddisk. There are brands like enter, champion etc. available between Rs.500-1000 you may try check this link http://search.ebay.in/casing_Computers-Peripherals_W0QQbsZSearchQQcatrefZC6QQfpaymZ1QQfpo sZPincodeQQfromZR10QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ 1QQga10244Z10425QQsacatZ160QQsadisZ200QQsbrftogZ1Q QsofocusZbs

Less than rs 1000... There are some interfaces that let you connect to the IDE connector on the drive. I think those are around rs 700 or so. I was thinking of doing this since the optical drives causes driver problems in windows XP. IE xp downgrades the transfer modes when the drive gets errors and its a pain to get it fixed. But with a USB to IDE removable its not such a pain.. It will be slowe than connecting it via the IDE interface though.
I have been using external USB connector to do it right now. Ao instead of using the conputers power supply it self it uses an external brock power supply.
