hi,
lemme plz bore u with some of my woes.
Me is a subscriber to BSNL DataOne.And like the rest of the subscribers im unhappy over DataCap.
So me is planning to switch over to Airtel/Hutch GPRS (Forget the speed etc).
I heard of this 99 Rs thingy where one can use phone as modem.
Phone is no problem coz me is gonna buy 3220 or any other GPRS enabled phone.
So i call up airtel and they say it is possible to use phone to surf WAP enabled sites only
with prepaid.
How come some of u are surfing all sites with this that too by connecting it to PC?
So the main question is
1>Does airtel/hutch have this offer for new numbers or shud i switch over to an old number?
2>Is this legal?Coz they specifically said its meant to be only for WAP sites
Plz help coz airtel/hutch ppl said it aint possible with prepaid anyway and im not willing to buy postpaid.
Please reply ASAP
Thanks in advance

well I connected to regular sites with the Hutch 99 using a xHTML browser based phone.
As far as connecting to PC is concerned theres another package a bit costlier which allows to connect to PC at a decent speed.
BTW in my city Hyderabad the Hutch 99 plan has been revised to 49 plan with a charge of 1 paisa for every kb of data transfer. Moreover sending an MMS now costs Rs. 3/-

if u want to use ur phone as a modem and connect to ur PC for surfing den u need to activate the other GPRS service i.e also called as APN or Hutch World in orange and Mobile Office in Airtel, it gives u about 5Kbytes p/sec speed and in mumbai Airtel charges Rs.199 pm for Mobile Office with unlimited usage But Orange i.e Hutch charges Rs.199 pm but also 50 paise for each 10k of upload and download. As per my experience Airtel provide Best service rather than orange or hutch coz dey hav lots of prbs in GPRS. Airtel is best for GPRS across INDIA wherever available. So better go for airtel GPRS as it's reliable and cheap too

Take it ..
Think of unlimited internet for just 99bucks
Check It ...
If its for Within the Phone i.e. AirTel World or Mobile Office
Read below for diff. btw the two
Phone is no problem coz me is gonna buy 3220 or any other GPRS enabled phone.
Rather buy Nokia-6021 for rs800 more
You will get
EDGE --> Thereby you can have 3 times the speed
Bluetooth --> Data t/f between PC n Phone will be fast.
So i call up airtel and they say it is possible to use phone to surf WAP enabled sites only with prepaid.
How come some of u are surfing all sites with this that too by connecting it to PC?
Man you are very confused here
... might be bcoz new to this GPRS thing
no problem
... let me clear this stuff for you ...
>>There are two tyes of settings provided by GSM operaters for GPRS
1. AirTel World / Hutch World
2. MOBILE OFFICE
Airtel World is for Downloading wallpaper/ringtones
Mobile Office is for using Internet.(Ph must have a modem)
One is for with in the phone,
the other is for PC
If you want to use ur phone for surfing on PC
then use it as a modem
e.g. ... you must have seen people using the Reliance phones
through R-Connect service.
Its the same service for CDMA users.
Is this legal?Coz they specifically said its meant to be only for WAP sites
Oh.. man There is nothing like legal or Illegal in this..
See ... if its for Wap
then they must be giving you only AirTel World service
for within the phone
Moblie Office --> Is For Surfing Internet
If you have subscribed to GPRS
for Rs.500 normaly ...
you can surely use it on your PC.
On EDGE you can get 3 times the speed,
But its phone & network dependent.
Airtel is good .. & it provides unlimited data transfer.
This must have cleared your many doubts
Cheers
