I have a P4 machine, 865GBF motherboard and 256 MB of RAM. I have four memory slots or RAM slots (Dimm slots) on my motherboard.I am planning to buy a RAM and I want to know that if i could install a higher frequency RAM (i.e.,333 Mhz or400 Mhz) along with my current RAM module which has a frequency of 266 Mhz. Moreoever is there any priority of installing which Module in which slots out of the four on my motherboard. pls advise me.

AFAIK mix and match of RAM wont do you any good since you'll have to use your faster RAM modules at 266MHz.

Always install RAM modules with same frequencies and make as that will make ur system run smoothly and without any glitches....
If u hv SDRAM then i would advise u to go in for 2x256 MB DDR RAM(400Mhz) as ur mobo supports RAM frequencies of 266,300 and 400 Mhz.
and buy the RAM sticks (modules) from a trusted shop....

You can and i dont think there will be any problems. Only thing is that it will work at the lower speed. So it ould be a waste of money at the end of the day as the faster dimm would be under utilised.
Better to sell your old ram and get new faster dimms.

And there is no particular way of installin ur RAM into ur Slots...only make sure that ur RAM modules (if u hv 2 modules) that they r operational in Dual channel mode...from ur BIOS setting....
