help: autoexec.nt not valid win32

i recently bought this half life compendium pack. it has all the mods of the original game besides itself.
whenever i try to install half life it gives me the message:
autoexec.nt not a valid win32 .....
i have not faced this kind of problem before.
besides it runs perfectly well in my friend's system.
pl help

ps- i hv windows xp installed sp2

wen i recieve this msg....its usually on win xp n same thing works just kool in 98....maybe heres d same case
