linux just wont activate my Opt mouse, CD-rom drive, modem

I've installed Redhat linux , but it just refuses to activate my Optical mouse, CD-rom drive, modem . I cant use much of anything on the system. What should I do , any Ideas ?

Please tell us your detailed system configuration , The linux version , and whether the optical mouse is a ps/2 one or a usb one etc...
