hi all,
i am having fedora core4. right now i want to upgrade(just think) my kernel and i got my latest kernel from www.linuxhq.com.
next step is to (i think) recompiling the kernel. i think it is the process. can anybody tell me how recompile my new kernel or apply a patch to my kernel.
can anybody tell me where i get all this info.if possible provide me a url. :arrow:

This (http://www.digitalhermit.com/linux/Kernel-Build-HOWTO.html) is one of the many guides for this purpose, check it out and good luck.
Also, did you try google? You will get many results (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&biw=1004&q=compile+linux+kernel&btnG=Search).
BTW, if this is your first time compililing a kernel, try using fedora's existing kernel config file (probably located in /boot/config), and modifying the options.

You need the kernel sources (30-40) MB from www.kernel.org or the site you mentioned (so I assume you already have it), and you need to have a working linux system, with development packages installed. If the command "gcc" returns "command not found" or something like that, you know that you don't have them installed.
