Zonealarm causing Networking troubles
Me and my friend have Sify Cable net connection. So we have setup a LAN within our computers.
Now the problem arises when I try to access my friends shared folder.
When Zonealarm is on, It denies me the access to his folder.
But when I shutdown Zonealarm I can easily access my friends folder.
The same problem occurs from his end too.
I don't want another Firewall and my PC is spyware and virus free.
I searched Zonealarm settings but couldn't find any setting to cure that.
Is there any solution?

Dump it into the recycle bin ;)
See why it should be dumped ... (http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1009_22-5741401.html)

Please forgive me for not being precise, its just that I stopped using software firewall a couple of months back.
As far as I can remember there is a option under preferences where you can add a something "Trustable Network" such as the internal LAN which then allows you to view & share folders as it doesnt block the connection.
Btw only the ZoneAlarm Pro and ZoneAlarm Security Suite products were affected from the bug.
The issue affected only the commercial ZoneAlarm Pro and ZoneAlarm Security Suite, he added. The free ZoneAlarm firewall does not include the Program Advisor feature and was thus not affected, he said.

huh? Convinced ? I dont even use that software mate :p
And to get to the point every software will have its share of exploits & vulnerabilities.
I'm not trying to defend ZA or any firewall for that matter.
Yes I agree 50,000 getting affected it huge but the fact of the matter is how fast a company fixes known issues.
Anyways lets stay on topic shall we? :D

U have to enable NetBIOS from the Advanced TCP/IP settings under 'WINS'

nikhil check what digen said
add ur internal lan to "trusted network"
when u open zap there are tabs on the top saying trusted / internet
click on one of them
there will be 2 networks ( in case of broadband )
click on the network u've setup with ur friend and click edit
and add it to trusted zone instead of internet zone
that should do it
