Does yuour laptop have a VGA/DVI out? If so you can but please check that your graphics chip can support the resolution of the screen that you are planning to buy.

A dual monitor set up is fantastic - I have been using this for more than 5 years at home and at work [with a desktop] and will never go back to a single screen again.
