well it is not advisable to import LCDs due the the problem of dead pixels. If dead pixels appear on ur LCD screen... you would have to send the LCD back to where you purchased it.
Different companies have different policies as regards to dead pixels. Ex- Samsung claims there are no dead pixles on its screens while Viewsonic or even Sony advetise that dead pixles may be present when purchased.

I guess buying from India is the only logical solution. But, if you want to take a risk... you can import it... there will be a bitta customs to pay.. but yeah it'll be a lot cheaper than purchasing from India.
Also in the US you will get LCDs with DVI input whereas LCDs available in India feature only VGA input.( Exceptions: Benq and some Viewsonic models)
