what filesystem does ur OS use? have u done a partition for ur OS in hard disk and formatted it to ur file system or is ur OS is in a Floppy drive?

do u want to use GRUB or LILO as ur standalone bootloader, that is they should list ur OS in their menu? i am not clear about this....

if u want an option to boot to Floppy (if ur OS resides in Floppy), then u can use third party boot loaders like XOSL (Free) or BootIt-NG (Commercial)....
http://www.ranish.com/part/xosl.htm
they reside in MBR and they take control over boot process and u can configure/add options for bootin in them.....
