Yes the username and password are the same you use for your e-mail account. After you've entered the setting and connected to your mailbox, your phone will download all your mails in the phone. Later whenever you connect to your mailbox through your phone, it'll update the inbox and will show if there are any new mails. You won't get any sms alerts though.
