Open up the terminal (Applications\Accessories\Terminal) and then type in

Code:

sudo apt-get install -f

Now, type in

Code:

sudo apt-get update

Now, type in

Code:

sudo apt-get install vlc

Do some waiting, and VLC should be installed. Now open media files with vlc.
