What I want to know is, why is Microsoft in such a situation. Dell, At&T, IBM, I can udnerstand but why a corporation like MS. They can run them at minimum wage if they want to, so why the layoffs.

Actually from what is surfacing slowly is that MSFT will be hiring 3k people more, which essentially means that the layoff would be lesser. Though I don't think MSFT needed to fire people 'coz they are not having any cash crunch of any sort but I guess they have good reasons.
