Google's upcoming Moto X and Nexus 7 leak ahead of July 24 eventWith Android 4.3 and the upcoming Moto X and Nexus 7 leaking before their official announcement, what exactly would breakfast with Sundar Pichai entail?
July 24 is just two days away, where Google has invited the press to have breakfast with the Android Head, Sundar Pichai, where he is supposedly to unveil two new products. The first, we had expected will be the next update to Android, Android 4.3, but that got leaked for the Nexus a few days ago. Today, the other big piece of Google announcement, the Nexus 7 has gone public, thanks to @evleaks. The Moto X phone is also expected to be unveiled at the event, and in the meantime, some alleged benchmarks of the device have leaked online.
We know the Nexus 7 version two is right around the corner and there are plenty of press shots / renders to prove that. However, if that wasn’t enough to convince you, The Verge is reporting that there is a Best Buy circular floating around the internet that not only proves the tablet’s existence, but also some of the specifications.
For starters, the tablet will sport an eye-popping resolution of 1920x1200 pixels, and slap that onto a 7-inch display, and we’re looking at what could be the highest pixel density in the segment once again. The tablet will cost $229 for the 16GB variant, although evleaks claims that there is a 32GB variant available as well. Lastly, the new Nexus 7 is being manufactured by Asus, for anyone who might have been wondering.
From the look of it, the upcoming Nexus 7 is just slightly taller than its predecessor, and possibly thinner too. The exact dimensions of the product aren’t available yet (officially or otherwise), but it’s not too long before this sweet slate gets officially announced.
The next major leak happens to be with regards to the much coveted Moto X phone, the first flagship from the company after it was acquired by Google. The phone is said to sport a 4.5 inch display with a resolution of 720x1184. There’s a 2.1 megapixel front facing camera for HD quality video conferencing and a 10.5 megapixel camera on the back for capturing photos worth keeping. There’s on board Wi-Fi, NFC and to power it all, a Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.7GHz dual core processor along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The specs come courtesy of Android Police , who seem to be in possession of a unit and have put it through the AnTuTu benchmark routine.
The phone racks up a score of 18753 AnTuTu and 7143 on 3DMark Ice Storm Extreme, making the phone a rather good performer when compared to the current mid-range dual core alternatives in the market. Rumours have suggested that the Moto X will be the first phone that will be user configurable, so we hope that this is the base configuration of the device. If this is to be the “come-back” device for Motorola, it needs to offer a lot more than just a dual core CPU (with an average GPU) and 2 GB of RAM.
