Seagate launches GoFlex storage, media, and connectivity devices in India [prices]

Seagate has launched the next generation of its FreeAgent external hard drives - the new GoFlex Storage Solutions. The core GoFlex drives are:

• GoFlex Ultra Portable Drives - Available in 14.5mm and 22mm versions, and include a USB 2.0 cable. MSRP Rs. 5200 for 320GB [silver, black]; Rs. 6,500 for 500GB (silver, black, red, blue); Rs. 13,900 for 1TB [silver, black]
• GoFlex Pro Ultra Portable Drive Kit - A 7200 RPM, this 2.5-inch drive delivers backup with encryption and includes a USB 2.0 cable. MSRP Rs. 7,900 for 500GB [black]
• GoFlex Desk External Drive Kit - Delivers high-capacity storage and automatic, continuous backup with encryption for all your files and includes a USB 2.0 cable. Rs. 7,100 for 1TB [black]; Rs. 13,500 for 2TB [black].

These drives can be further adapted to new high-speed interfaces, such as USB 3.0, eSATA and Firewire 800, through and additional GoFlex adapters and cables, which are listed below:

• GoFlex Cable - USB 2.0 - The baseline interface for the GoFlex and GoFlex Pro ultra-portable drives. MSRP Rs. 1,500.
• GoFlex Upgrade Cable - USB 3.0 - Equips GoFlex and GoFlex Pro ultra-portable drives to operate at USB 3.0 speeds, while being backwards compatible. MSRP Rs. 3,000.
• GoFlex Upgrade Cable Kit - USB 3.0 - Includes ExpressCard adapter to update a laptop and GoFlex ultra-portable drives from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0 and operate at USB 3.0 speeds, MSRP Rs. 6,000.
• GoFlex Upgrade Cable - FireWire 800 - Upgrades the GoFlex and GoFlex Pro ultra-portable drives to operate at FireWire 800 speeds. MSRP Rs. 2,700.
• GoFlex Upgrade Cable Kit - eSATA - Empowers the GoFlex and GoFlex Pro ultra-portable drives to operate at eSATA speeds. MSRP Rs. 2,000.
• GoFlex Upgrade Cable - Auto Backup - Delivers continuous backup and protection of data, while leaving capacity for basic drag-and-drop file transfer. MSRP Rs. 2,200.
• GoFlex Desk Desktop Adapter - USB 3.0 - Allows the GoFlex Desk to operate at USB 3.0 speed for a desktop PC. MSRP Rs. 3,500.
• GoFlex Desk Desktop Adapter Kit - USB 3.0 - Includes PCI Express adapter to upgrade a desktop PC and GoFlex Desk external drive for USB 3.0 performance, MSRP Rs. 6,000.
• GoFlex Desk Desktop Adapter—FireWire 800/USB 2.0—Upgrades the GoFlex Desk external drive to operate via FireWire 800/USB 2.0 for a desktop PC. MSRP Rs. 2,700.

Seagate will include an NTFS driver for Mac OS X on all GoFlex portable and desktop offerings, enabling storage and access of files from both Windows and Mac computers. The NTFS driver is simply installed once on a Mac computer, and allows access and storage of files on a Windows-formatted drive. This is a novel feature, that we haven't seen in any of the drives before these.
