Nokia 6600i Slide

It isn’t often that a Nokia phone scores style points, so when the few such models come by, you can rest assured that it has offset a few features in the bargain.

Nokia has now launched the uber-sleek 6600i Slide in India, which comes with a 2.2-inch screen (16 million colours, 240x320 pixels) and accelerometer for ‘tap-to-mute’ and ‘tap-for-time’ features. With this, when you get a call, you can mute the ringing sound by double-tapping on the display when the phone is closed. You can reject the same incoming call by double-tapping again on the display. Similarly, you can display the clock by double-tapping the phone’s screen when it’s idle.

The biggest feature of the phone is, undoubtedly, the 5-megapixel camera on the back, which comes complete with autofocus and dual-LED flash. Video recording is not so hot, as it can shoot VGA resolution footage, but only at 15 frames per second.

Equipped with a 1GB microSD card, users can always expand the memory up to 16GB. The 20MB of internal memory, though, could cause the phone to slow down once you have a lot of messages stored in it.

Other features of the 6600i Slide include 3G and EDGE connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, stereo FM radio, Flash Lite 3.0, Nokia Maps (strangely, as there is no GPS on the phone) and microUSB port.

When packaging all this in a sleek 14-mm-thick phone that weighs just 110 grams, you would expect Nokia to cut corners somewhere. This time, the company has chosen the battery to be the one who makes the sacrifice, reducing the talk-time to a mere four hours.

That alone could be a dealbreaker for some, and make the Rs. 14,000 price tag seem a bit too steep.
