While the rest of the world is busy making better and better operating systems for mobiles, ITG, a Chinese technology company has managed to build an actual mobile phone which can run a full featured Windows XP! The world just gets messier doesn't it!


While companies like Google, Apple, and the Symbian foundation are trying harder to create and release operating systems for mobiles which offer similar functionality as a desktop operating system, electronic component manufacturers are trying to create better and faster systems which are capable of running even desktop operating systems, and all the while the desktop applications are evolving to extract greater use of the desktop processors!


In this endless cycle, ITG's new device, dubbed xpPhone for obvious reasons, breaks out o fthe circle by letting you have an entire desktop OS running on your phone. The xpPhone features a large 4.8" touch-screen with a resolution of 800x480 and has a full QWERTY keyboard. With a dizzying array of features, such as dual SSD and standard HDD, VGA output at full HD resolutions (1920x1080), USB port for connecting peripherals, 3G connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, camera, and more!


Considering that the Mobile is running a desktop OS, it comes with some features to optimize it's usage on Mobile. It is possible to set the device to wake from standy on receiving a message or call. To prevent the phone from getting slowed down too much over time, it can even restore the factory system image (or a user created one) at every restart, so that the system remains fresh and fast.


With a phone running Windows XP there is little point in discussing features, since you could probably run Outlook on this and stop worrying about all your Push Mails, or run Dreamweaver, and code your website on the go. With a phone running a desktop OS, there is little you cant do. Except of course, with a weight of 400gms you probably wont be able to do much for very long, unless you also count this as an exercise device.


Besides the obvious disadvatage of carrying an extra 400gm brick with the device just to even out your pants and the subsequent need for reinforced pockets, this device s sure to impress. With so much jam-packed into such little space, the jury is still out as to how feasible such a device will be on long term usage. Oh and the pricing, something tells us this one will bite.
