Yahoo launches AppSpot for Android and iOS app discovery
Yahoo has launched a new app called AppSpot, which will apparently give Android and iOS users a “fun, fast way to search and discover” applications for their devices. Providing a variety of details, from screenshots to descriptions, star ratings, related apps, and prices, AppSpot also delivers daily recommendations and suggestions to users, based on past purchases.

The AppSpot application will also be available to use via browser, increasing the number of access platforms. Introducing the application, a spokeperson from Yahoo made the following statement:
"Yahoo AppSpot, a new mobile application, works like a flashlight in the darkness of more than 425,000-plus apps in the Apple App Store and 200,000 apps in Android Market. Yahoo AppSpot offers a new way to take the guesswork out of finding relevant and interesting apps for mobile users."
While this is not as directly threatening as the Amazon AppStore for Android, which offers better testing and recommendations than the Android Market, the trend of companies capitalizing on the rapidly growing and super-popular Android Market and Apple AppStore is fast seeing new followers.
In Yahoo’s case, we can understand the usefulness of the product to a user that has both iOS and Android devices – for all other purposes, visiting the relevant official store will probably remain the normal route of discovery for most people, though only time will tell.
Visit Yahoo's App Search page for more information, and to download the application for your Android device or iOS device, click the respective links: [Android Market and Apple AppStore]
