World�s first: Skype video calls on Symbian phones through Fring - Mobile Phone

Fring, the unified mobile app that connects friends from social networks and instant messengers has just given Nokia X6, N97 mini, N97, 5800, N95 8G and N95 users something to gloat about. These phones have a front-facing camera, and can be used to conduct video calls with other users on Skype using the phone’s Wi-Fi or 3G connection for free.

“This is a two-way video call!” says an enthusiastic developer showing a demo of the application on YouTube. It’s the world’s first application to make mobile video calls over Internet protocol (IP).

The company has a history of bringing free calls and Twitter over the Internet for phones. “We have a responsibility to continue breaking the mobile-Internet barriers, and bringing users all the choices that Internet communications on mobile can deliver,” said Avi Shechter, co-founder & CEO of Fring.

The service lets users chat and communicate with friends on mobile devices. Fring video enables users to conduct video calls with other ‘fringsters’ as well as with Skype contacts using the device’s Wi-Fi or 3G net connection.

Fring also supports iPhone/iPod touch, Android, and Windows Mobile handsets, but will roll out similar features for these platforms at a later date. The software integrates contacts from Twitter, Facebook, Last.fm, Skype, GTalk, AIM, MSN through one profile, and works with any kind of internet connection – 3G, Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE &WiMax.
