  • Technically flawed dual memory slot
  • Mediocre performer

Summary

The Tech-Com T 51 fails to justify its USP by revealing a technical flaw with its dual memory slots. Also, it does not justify even its Rs. 2,100 price tag by being less than a mediocre performer.

Tech-Com has stormed the entry level cellphone market with numerous dual SIM and dual memory combo models like: T 31, T 51 and T 55, bringing stiff competition to other entry-level brands like Spice, Fly, Micromax, Akai and Intex.

The T 51 incorporates a matte black finish on the keypad and a matte chocolate brown finish on the back panel. The body contours of the front panel is decorated in a silver metallic finish, to add a touch of class to the design aesthetics of the cellphone. The keypad layout incorporates flat-key design with narrow ridged spacings separating the keys from each other. The white font colour of the keys, adds a stark contrast with the black coated keys. The scratch proof sticker on the LCD is a value add, which most budget phones miss out these days.

The cheap build quality of the keypad results in poor tactile feedback from the keys during user input. Hence, the user is required to press the keys harder to register the input successfully. During our tests, we noticed that the memory card slots revealed intermittent issues with recognizing the microSD cards. Sometimes, both the memory cards got detected, while some other times neither of them were detected. Also, there were a few instances where only one of the two cards got randomly detected. We went through a hectic run-down of multiple trials, until both the memory cards were detected. This is a serious technical flaw, wherein one of the key selling points of the cellphone is its own undoing. The build quality of the battery cover is mediocre and tends to break off easily under rugged use. The overall build quality of the cellphone is ordinary. The menu interface is simple and well-organised.
