The updates have started rolling out in Europe, and Sony Ericsson expects to be able to deliver comprehensive worldwide availability by the end of November with a “phased roll-out” that will see different kits get updates at different times, keeping in mind the various legal, firmware, and network differences between Xperia X10 models launched in different countries. While we have highlighted some of the key changes expected with the update, lets take a look at what Sony Ericsson believes it will be offering, in its own words:
Xperia X10:
• HD video recording with continuous auto-focus for high quality videos
• Upgrade of the Android platform to Android 2.1
• New back up and restore application, with extended content back up
• 5 homescreens for apps, widgets, shortcuts and folders
• Social phonebook which automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook and shows when your friends are online
Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro:
• Improved Bluetooth functionality with support for sending and receiving pictures, contacts and more
• New backup and restore application with extended content back up
• Automatic synchronization of your contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book
• Improved ways of handling pictures, audio, text and numbers in your messages
• Upgrade of the Android platform to Android platform 2.1
To know if your area has got the update yet, switch on your Xperia X10 mobile to get an automatic notification from Sony Ericsson, which will then guide your through the download and installation process. Over the air updates are not currently available in most markets, and download will still be down using the PC Companion software. If you haven’t received a notification yet, don’t fret, it will probably come in within the next few weeks. For more information, check out www.sonyericsson.com/update.
