Indians are used to seeing a new product hit every single country but ours, and having to rely on the grey market to call first dibs. But apparently, Samsung’s new ‘Jet’ lives up to its name. On June 15, the company had unveiled its new handset at CommunicAsia in Singapore, and has already launched it on our shores.

The 3.1-inch AMOLED resistive touchscreen can display 16 million colours at a resolution of 480x800 pixels, which should prove enough to operate the TouchWiz 2.0 UI running on top of Windows Mobile. Still, the allure of resistive touchscreens for thumb-oriented navigation bemuses us…

Flipping the phone over, you will be greeted by a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, wide dynamic range, face detection, smile shutter, blink recognition and 720x480 pixel video recording at 30 frames per second. Ask it nicely and it might just do your homework too.

Under the hood, an 800MHz Qualcomm processor powers various functions, including 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and A-GPS, and the proprietary Digital Natural Sound Engine (DNSe). Coupled with the 3.5-mm audio jack for your own headphones, your songs sound a lot better due to this, if you were to believe Samsung. ‘Better’ than what?

At least there’s ample disk space offered by the device for all your media needs, with 8GB of onboard memory and a slot for a microSD card of up to 16GB.

The 8 and half hours of talk-time on the 1100mAh battery will have to be seen to be believed, but till then, the Jet is quite a lucrative deal for Rs 24,150.
