A Finnish news blog, Puhelinvertailu, has come across a new patent filed by mobile giant Nokia seeking a trademark for ‘C series’ of phones. And the move is being welcomed by almost everyone on the Web as the company’s penchant for four-digit model numbers is making it increasingly difficult to remember their huge line-up of phones.

The buzz, though, is what the C series is supposed to stand for. Nokia already has an ‘E’ series for business phones and ‘N’ series for multimedia handsets, with neither letter corresponding to the task at hand!

The Boy Genius Report (BGR) thinks it could be that Nokia will rebrand some of its existing Symbian-powered phones and stick them under the ‘C’ line-up.

But we don’t think that makes much sense for Nokia, with the amount of logistics involved. The suggestion that a new line-up of phones will hit the stands under the ‘Cseries’ moniker seems a lot more plausible.

BGR also argues that the current ‘E’ series stands for ‘Enterprise’ phones; in which case, ‘C’ for camera? Cheap? Either way, we are intrigued.

Come on, Nokia, lay those cards on the table!
