Mobile phones with large touchscreens and high-megapixel cameras seem to be the norm these days, so LG’s Viewty Smart doesn’t really impress in that sense.

The 3-inch capacitive touchscreen TFT displays 16 million colours at a resolution of 800x480 pixels – ideal for operating the new S-Class user interface that the LG Arena made popular.

The 8-megapixel camera, though, offers a little punch with its Schneider-Kreuznach lens with a sensitivity of ISO 1600, power LED flash, geo-tagging, image stabilisation and face and smile detection. More importantly, it can also record 720p HD video at 30 frames per second.

All your shots and footage can be stored on the handset’s 1.5GB of internal memory, or a microSD card of up to 32GB in size.

Music is not much in focus as can be seen by the lack of a 3.5mm audio jack, although the phone does support FM radio with RDS and myriad audio and video formats. The speakerphone has gotten a boost with the inclusion of Dolby’s ‘mobile enhancement’ technology.

For connectivity, the Viewty Smart (or GC900) offers 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0, GPS and A-GPS.

The 1000mAh battery claims to offer a talk-time of up to five and half hours, and a standby time of 330 hours.

Available in silver and black colour schemes, the Viewty Smart is priced at Rs 27,500.
