Google polishes up Gmail for mobile; makes it 'look sharper and feel smoother'

Google has given the mobile version of Gmail the equivalent of a botox shot. While the cosmetic job does not include any new features, it certainly makes the app look better on smaller screens, removing wrinkles, tidying lines and in Google's word's, makes "Gmail for mobile look sharper and feel smoother." The changes made to Gmail for mobile are as follows:

Pull down to refresh
Now users can refresh the message list and conversation on all iOS and PlayBook devices by just tapping the message list and dragging downwards and finally releasing it.

High resolution icons
Gmail will now appear sharper and better. Users using the mobile version of Gmail on an iPhone 4 Retina display can view the icons and graphics at a higher resolution.


 

Transitions

Another notable change you are supposed to 'feel' is smoothness in shuffling between the mails. All you need to do is tap a conversation, tap back to the inbox or switch to menu or back button, the view will move left or right. According to Google, the new transition animation is prompt and gives the “smoother” feel.

The new changes have been made via a combination of up to eight different CSS3 transitions and Javascript.
