Google Chrome hits 25 percent global browser market share

Google's web browser Chrome has grabbed nearly 25% market share, show statistics provided by StatCounter, a research firm. Chrome, which recently celebrated its third birthday, reached 25.02 percent share last Sunday.
Chrome's market share jumped to 26 percent in the period September 2010 to September 2011. The browser had witnessed an 18 percent growth in the previous year. According to StatCounter, Microsoft's Internet Explorer still dominates the browser market with a share of 45 percent. Firefox manages second spot with a market share of 30 percent.
The latest figures suggest Chrome is fast catching up with Internet Explorer and Firefox. With a market share of nearly 25 percent, Firefox is certainly in Chrome's reach. If the trends are to be believed, Chrome would easily surpass Firefox by next month.
Firefox has been worst affected by Chrome's escalating popularity. Firefox has failed to prompt its users to switch from its older versions to newer versions fast enough. It only managed to get 54 percent of its users to switch to its latest Firefox 6. On the other hand, Google saw 80 percent of its users move from one version to another within seven days of the release of a new version .
