Adobe announces collaboration with RIM; treads further in Mobile territory
Adobe has already conquered the Web with the Flash Player, which now has over 99% penetration on desktops, and soon it seems, Flash will have a near ubiquitous presence in all internet-enabled devices.
We have seen this Adobe MAX, that Adobe Flash will soon make its way in nearly all mobile smartphones. Now, Adobe has announced a collaboration with RIM, popular for their BlackBerry mobile phones, to make it easier to create content for BlackBerry phones using Adobe products.
At MAX we were already informed that soon we would find a full version of the upcoming Flash Player 10.1 for the BlackBerry platform, making it possible to create content for the platform using Flash Player itself. However Adobe plans to make this even easier by supporting the platform in the future, starting with Creative Suite 5.
Future versions of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and AfterEffects will be able to natively export content for Blackberry mobiles, and such content could then be imported in the BlackBerry development environments (BlackBerry® Java® Plug-in for Eclipse™ and the BlackBerry® Web Plug-in for Eclipse™) and used for application as UI elements etc.
Adobe Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and Device central too will be able to optimize and test content for these devices. Adobe's new future applications, including Photoshop.com and Photoshop Express will support importing images and videos taken using a BlackBerry.
Adobe is taking large steps to ensure that its products are ready for the age of mobile applications, going as far as creating a compiler for creating iPhone applications from Flash files! It seems we will see a future where Adobe products could be used for creating content for any mobile platform.
