Mobile phone cameras are usually associated with blurry and grainy pictures, with all forms of color abberations. Good enough for those funny shots of small kids poking their noses, but not worth serious consideration. Although this is no longer true of all phones but the damage is done. Noone takes Camera photography seriously.

Samsung is trying to further dissipate this bad reputation with their new Pixon12, a mobile phone with a touch screen, and yes, a 12 megapixel camera!

It comes with some advanced features found in cameras today, such as single click shooting, and automatic scene and mode selection based on ambient conditions. It manages to integare the camera well with the touchscreen as well, as you can select the focal point directly using touch on the screen! It also comes with powerul software to tag and organize photos on your phone. It's hard not to take such specs seriously.

As Executive Vice President JK Shin, who is the head of the Mobile division at Samsung stated, “The Pixon12 is testament to how Samsung’s ongoing consumer research enables us to develop ground-breaking products that do not just meet but surpass our customers’ expectations. Speedy access to the camera mode, fast shutter speed and quick browsing are some of the key factors consumers are looking for in their mobile phone cameras”.

Phone cameras are seeing a continuing increase in quality, but this manages to go a step above. Whether or not this product garners as much interest after release is almost irrelevant. The precedent is set, expect more to come!
