Samsung N140 netbook with Microsoft Windows 7

The ultra-portable netbooks are getting increasingly popular in India and across the world, and prices seem to be dropping every day. But just as the prices drop, the battery life seems to get longer.

Samsung’s latest offering in the segment, the N140 netbook, boasts of a battery life of up to 11 hours of continuous computing, thanks to its 6-cell battery. This cause is helped by the fact that the 10-inch non-gloss screen (1024x600 pixels) is LED backlit.

The rest of the specifications of the N140 remain similar to most other netbooks. There is a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor powering the whole system, which runs smoothly on Microsoft’s new Windows 7 operating system. The 1GB of DDR2 RAM can always be upgraded, and should be if you are planning to do even basic gaming with the onboard Intel GMA950 graphics chipset.

The 250GB hard disk should be enough to store most of your data, including documents, pictures, movies and music. The audio experience should be a delight on this one, given its dual 1.5W stereo speakers and the SRS 3D Sound Effect algorithms cranking out great tunes.

For connectivity, the N140 netbook has Ethernet LAN, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, three USB ports, 3-in-1 memory card reader, VGA port, headphone jack and a microphone port. The 1.3-megapixel camera also enables easy video conferencing, especially because the device comes with a built-in mike.

Along with a spill-proof anti-bacteria keyboard, the netbook scores heavily in style points as it comes with beautifully rounded edges, smooth lines and a thin profile. With different colour choices available, this 1.27kg (with battery) mini-laptop is a pleasure to carry around.

Packaged with a 1-year warranty, the Samsung N140 netbook retails at Rs. 24,990. The company is also offering free pick-up and delivery of netbook and notebooks within the eight Indian metros.
