Intel Atom "App Store" now open for submission; Beta SDK released
Intel's new App-store-like like venture for Atom netbooks has now begun accepting application submissions.
The Intel Atom Developer Program is Intel's attempt to have a application store for its Atom based netbooks. Developers need to use the light SDK provided by Intel for developing their Application for it to be eligible.
A while back they released their first Alpha SDK to get early developers started off developing with the new SDK. Now with the beta release they enabling app submissions as well.
The model of this service is much like that of the iPhone App Store, where the company gets a 30% cut of any earnings. Due to the increased complexity in developing desktop applications (compared to mobile applications), with support for developers to sell libraries for inclusion in other programs, Intel's licensing system is a little more complicated as well.
The SDK provides functionality to test whether the computer running the application is authorized or not, using a unique 128-bit application ID, which can be obtained from the Intel Atom Developer Program website. The SDK also allows for some offline functionality by caching licenses and crash reporting etc. automatically.
The SDK is available for both Moblin, Intel's own netbook oriented operating system, and Windows, and supports coding in C++ or C. If you are a developer in C or C++ you can get more details and register at the Intel Atom Developer Program website.
