Acer announces it will use MeeGo, what happened to ChromeOS?
Intel’s press release from Computex 2010, apart from just detailing the company’s new Oak Trail and Pine Trail/Canoe Lake platforms, has dropped names on its Nokia-collaborative platform, MeeGo. Apart from HawTai Automobile using the platform for “future invehicle-infotainment”, Acer’s CEO Gianfranco Lanci went ahead to describe how his company’s future netbooks and tablets will use the MeeGo software platform to “foster an open ecosystem of innovation”.
Lanci went on to say: "Acer will be ready with MeeGo-based mobile devices," said Lanci. "MeeGo's open software platform will present our customers with another choice of a friendly, easy-to-use operating system. We are pleased to collaborate with Intel in our continuous drive to provide effortless technologies that empower people at work, home - anytime, anywhere."
Sounds great, but where does Acer and its use of ChromeOS feature in all this? We were quite excited about that, and hope it's still on track! Open source versus open source, a signal of the great times ahead!
