Google doodle celebrates 100th birthday of British archaeologist Mary LeakyToday's Google doodle is dedicated to the renowned British archaeologist and anthropologist Mary Leakey, who is widely popular for discovering the first fossilized Proconsul.
Google doodle is back on Google's home page, as the search engine giant today celebrates the 100th birth anniversary of Mary Leakey – the British archaeologist and anthropologist who is widely known for discovering the first fossilized Proconsul (an extinct ape believed to be ancestral to humans) skull.
Born on February 6 1913, Mary Leakey is popular for her major discoveries and contributions to the archaeology. She is also known for developing a system that helps classify stone tools found at Olduvai as well as discovering Laetoli footprints. Leakey also discovered the Zinjanthropus (Paranthropus, a genus of extinct hominins) skull. She passed away on December 9, 1996 at the age of 83. To know more about Mary Leakey, click here.
Today's Google doodle features Mary Leaker surrounded with archaeologists tools such as trowel, leaf-and-square and brush. She is shown working at an excavation site filled with footprints.
