Steal ALL: I Kid You Not

Posted on 01-07-2008

With all the heat and dust over illegal filesharing issue people would expect musicians to zealously guard their share of royalties and milk each and every compact disc for all its worth. There have been notable exceptions, with bands like Nine Inch Nails and artists like Radiohead giving away music for free. However Kid Rock has gone into entirely different territory by recommending fans that they steal his music!

In a “public service announcement” that was posted to YouTube (you can watch it here: http://tinyurl.com/59ofda in case you are interested) by Kid Rock he announced that since he was so stinking rich it didn’t matter if people illegally downloaded his songs. He probably gladdened the hearts of anarchists and anti establishment types when he said that big corporations were evil. His advice to viewers was to steal anything that caught their fancy. From laptops to iPods to cars to oil, everything was fair game. His contention is that since big corporations were sitting on billions of dollars of cash they would not miss the one or two missing items on their inventory. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were particularly picked on as people to target, on account of their vast “fortunes”.

Kid Rock, unlike many artists doesn’t sell his music on iTunes as he feels the system is biased against the artists. The rap rocker also says that the Internet is a way to settle scores with record companies who have been ripping off both performers and customers with ridiculous prices.

While most people would dismiss the video as harmless comedy there is a danger that some idiots might really believe what their idol said and attempt a spree of shopliftings and car-jackings across the world. We hope that Kid Rock has a plan in hand when these luckless sods are chucked into the penitentiary.
