So now that the new PlayStation 3 Slim has been unveiled, the question for every Indian is “When can we get our hands on it?” Well, Digit’s got the exclusive details, straight from the horse’s mouth!

Update: Sony's PR team confirms it: The new 120 GB Slim PlayStation3 will be available in India by end November for 19,990, they said, on the last day of of the month.

You can expect the PS3 Slim to hit retail shelves in India in November, for around the same price as the current 80GB ‘Fat PS3’, which received a price cut to now retail at Rs 19,990. However, while the Fat PS3 also comes bundled with two games (Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and GT5 Prologue), the PS3 Slim will carry no such packaged titles.

Atindriya Bose, Sony Computer Entertainment – Country Manager, told Think Digit: “As you know, the worldwide launch for the PS3 Slim is scheduled for September 1, and since we normally get our shipments from the European market, that usually means a delay of about a month and half.”

“However, with Diwali coming up, logistics become a little difficult. So we are targeting a launch for the PS3 Slim some time in November,” he said.

“We realise the disappointment during the festive season and have hence released the 80GB PS3 bundle with two free titles for gaming enthusiasts,” he added.

And what’s more, Bose revealed that the Fat PS3 will be phased out once current stocks are sold out.

“Once the current lot of 80GB PS3 units are sold, we will be making only the 120GB PS3 Slim available in the Indian market,” he said.

So, will you wait out till November for the PS3 Slim or grab the 80GB PS3 bundle with the two free games? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

You guys need to ask the GOI for reduction in import tax, as additional duty is the key markup on the Price of a PS3.

PS3 slim sucks. ive already bought the 80 gig bundle pack. The original PS3 looks like a pice of art when kept in the living room not just a small (slim) peice of toy. A majoriy of population is waiting very eagerly for the PS3 Slim crap coz of the price cut and more memory, i really dont give a damn about the memory coz when i look at my original PS3, it makes me feel proud to own a beautiful, stylish yet all in 1 media centre.

I am waiting to buy the ps3 slim along with the most awaited hard core games like god of war3,GT5,mordern warfare 2 etc...so I AM WAITING

Posted by donald_buck on Sep 02,2009

PS3 isn't worth buying until GT5,God Of War 3 hits the stores. That is either around Christmas or around Q12010. Worth holding on for the Slim. The titles with the fatso aren't special either.

I don't understand, if SONY already anounced the release date as 1st September and Price 299 $(12 to 15K), that to again worldwide, then why it should be delay for india and again in higher price.

This price of 20k for indian market really sucks..16k would be a affordable one and would cause increase in sale of this console in india Mr.Bose..and why cant u present india gamers with this console on this diwali rather than making them wait so long?

Posted by rohit on Aug 30,2009

New PS3 slim dosen't make any sense with the same price tag as previous one.sony's PS3 sales wont increase.I'll wait more 6 month for a price to drop to below 15k. final verdict: Costly console with no backward compatiblity, costly game titles. Not worth buying this year atleast.

what the fuck is that!!! suppose i am middle class family and i want a big game like ps3. there are in india most of gaming people want to prchase ps3 and they are waiting for slimps3 at 299$. but you fade them up. we are happy with ps2

Posted by game_recon on Aug 27,2009

PS3 should be priced 15K for India as it's for US. Mr. Bose high price means low sales while low price means high sales, atleast for India.

Posted by shyam on Aug 27,2009

price seems fair...i calculated shipping from any country to india which cost almost half price of the ps3slim...so i dont have any problem to buy 20-25k...the only concern is delay...i was expecting in india on same date but no worries have to wait :(

Posted by sudarsan on Aug 26,2009

This is bad, i was expecting slim to cost around 16k-17k max : 18k. but 20k is unfair, will buy ps3 slim from US, indian market sucks

Nothing exceptionally great about the Slim and No one could call it a Slim its jus that the old console went on diet.I would still stick onto my PS3 as the new one looks cheap and hear it doesn't stand vertical without a supporting stand.About the heating issues i would say the whole world is on global warming and so proud to say my ps3 also is HOT:)

I was waiting for the price cut and bought it immidiately on the announcement from gamescom. As the new Slim version is concerned, the present fat one looks much better and has Linux installation compatability, whereas, the slim lacks it. Moreover the only major upgrade is the chip which is 45nm instead of 65nm which resuces heat and power consumption. Everything else is the same so, why not get the 2 free titles. Moreover there would be a system software update 3.0 available on the 1 Sept, 2009 which gives all the new functionalities of the slim. My PS3 rocks....

Although I would agree with the upgraded—more efficient components; the design? Just. No.

Are you seriously sure that more memory makes it worth it? I mean, when you could switch the HDD yourself. Personally, I don't think I'd ever need that much space on a gaming system, HTPC maybe, PS3? No.

Posted by Chetan on Aug 24,2009

Its worth the wait as it has more memory and it will be the latest slim machine. Who wants the free games as you can as well buy them as it is also priced lesser. I would buy it for sure even if i have one fat ps3.

Posted by chethan on Aug 23,2009

25% higher price!!! that too in the period of recession..probably they are targeting only 25% customers

Posted by Maclean Lewis on Aug 21,2009

The delay is feasible. The price, just isn't. Something that costs $299 [Rs. 15,000 approx.] to be costing around Rs. 20,000 approx. is just absurd. Sure, it's imported and not manufactured here, but I believe the hike is a bit overwhelming to attract the attention of the target audience; which the price cut and the PS3 Slim were obviously poised to achieve.

Posted by satya on Aug 20,2009

yeah even i dont like the price difference of the same product in different countries.. I dont why but I am assuming because of the % of sales ,they sell at higher price?? not sure...

Posted by akh on Aug 19,2009

14K in US and 20K in India. What the hell??? To add to the cake he says " and since we normally get our shipments from the European market, that usually means a delay of about a month and half" ... it takes 45 days to get this stuff from EU ...maybe Mr. Bose still lives in 18th century
